Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
This step back into the world of Panem gives readers new insight into the life and motivations of one of our favorite characters from the original Hunger Games trilogy. The Easter eggs sprinkled through out this book reminds the readers of the wonder of reading the original books while also providing plot twists and excitement with every turned page.
This book gets a 4.5/5, it not a 5/5 only because going into the novel the reader (assuming they have read the original trilogy) already know much of how the story is going to end. You know Haymitch is going to win the Hunger Games, the question is How. How did he end up in the Hunger Games? How did he manage to survive the 50th hunger games with twice as many tributes? And finally How did Haymitch come to be the self medicating drunk we know and love?

Imagine waking up in a cage with no memory of who you are or where you are from. Forced to fight becoming the best blade slave in order to be bought into an assassins' group to survive. Only to catch the attention of the group of assassins who left you for dead years before. Survival is the goal, but is trust an option, and why is she the only fae with white hair and heals by the glow of the moon....
This is a standalone book and I rate it 4.5/5 only because there was some weird stuff happening at times and a few times where it could of been drawn out in order to develop the story and relationships better but overall the story was still good.
A Thousand Heartbeats By Kiera Cass
Two Rulers neither in charge of the throne, yet both are fighting to protect for what they rightfully believe is their future.
This book is from two POV's and is very well executed when switching back and forth. There are 3 parts to this book, which does not completely make sense to me because the story continues exactly where it left off, but for explaining my take on this story I will say that part 3 was definitely the body of story and should of been part 2. unfortunately for this book it was not as captivating as I would of hoped it to be. Considering the excitement when reading Kiera Cass' other series ; The Selection and her spin off books the heir and the crown. This book focused a lot on the build up of a war and the relationship between the two main characters but it got very dull. My personal opinion would of been to mush together part 1 and 2 move part 3 to part 2 and have a longer ending. As with a lot of stories once the main characters get their "happy ending" the story just ends, its very dissatisfying and kind of gives a mediocre last impression, and puts a damper on everything that was read before when the ending doesn't end as strong as the beginning or end.
Over all This standalone by Kiera Cass was not one I would recommend but if you enjoy her work then it's definitely still worth the read.

The Fork, The Witch and The Worm Tales from Alagaesia Volume 1: Eragon By Christopher Paolini
Such a welcome return to the world of Alagaesia and the characters that inhabit it. This book was a very quick read and brings a little bit of closure to the characters that we miss so much. I am always hoping for more stories of Eragon and Saphira

Tress of the Emerald Sea By Brandon Sanderson
This book is an amazing place to start if you are interested in reading any of Brandon Sanderson’s books. It is a stand alone novel narrated by a significant character from his other works. This novel is so wonderfully innocent but at the same time completely entrancing. I can’t wait to continue reading Sanderson’s work. Highly recommend the audio book read by Michael Kramer

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society By Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
Savannah's POV: This book was captivating. it was written with such a different structure and yet it told a full story with events that may not necessarily have been 100 percent true but definitely portrayed the history in which it was being written as. I have a love for history related novels and this story was a wonderful new take; it was sweet, and included all types of engaging topics and characters. I enjoyed listening to this book and highly recommend the audio version as it does help to draw you in and differ from character to character.
Rating 4.5/5 (Only because I couldn't believe the story was over when it was)
Sara's POV:This book was so well written that I could hardly put it down. The two authors’ blended style brings this cast of characters to life through the letters that they write and the stories they tell. While this is a fictional novel it is based in a time and place that was all to real for so many people.
Rating 4.75/5 only because it is a stand alone book and I wanted more.

The Witchslayer by Opal Reyne
This was a great read the writer defined the characters very well, and the flow of the story made sense. I do believe that if the writer wanted to make this a multi book series they could have but over all the pacing was still good. I liked the main female character she was kind, thoughtful and not too serious, but I do feel as if she could of stood up for herself more or used her white magic in a more advanced way. The main male character was quite possessive which makes sense, but the way he spoke his thoughts sometimes and acted as if he was uncertain was a little farfetched when he's lived over 100 years.
This is a story about a lone witch who cares for others secretly in her cottage. One day her cat brings home a hurt creature she has never seen before. After nursing it back to health she let it go just as she was taken by the nearby village to be burned on the stake. Just as Amalia was about to die she is captured once again, this time by the creature she cared for only he's grown bigger than a house.
Amalia is then forced to live in the dragons lair; a dragon known for killing almost 100 witches. They must learn to like each other or at least tolerate one another as she is never allowed to leave.
